A dining room that serves residents every day
Heather runs dining for a Morrison Living senior-living community in northern Kentucky. Residents eat three meals a day, every day, so her servers are part of each resident's day.
“You've done the hard work for me… And now I just get to borrow them from you.”

The operation
Heather runs dining for a Morrison Living senior-living community in northern Kentucky. Residents eat three meals a day, every day, so her servers are part of each resident's day.

The challenge
The community is off the bus line, and the dining room is open weekends and holidays. Hiring has not filled the open jobs, and every call-off still has to be covered.
“I probably have eight open positions right now and they've been open for three months and I can't get them filled. I'm not on a bus line.”
Four things, each in their own words.
“I've never had anybody from any position I've used Upshift for that I have thought, oh, I don't want them back here because of presentation.”
Heather Lokesak · Director of Dining ServicesServers in senior living need good manners and patience. Upshift vets every worker before the first shift, and managers rate them after every shift.
Grace H.Server · vetted by Upshift★★★★★“If you go look at my account you'll see the same people on repeat. I literally send them my schedule and say, this is what I have, what do you want, and I let them pick.”
Heather Lokesak · Director of Dining ServicesFavorites are her regulars. She sends them the schedule and they pick their days. Her ten most regular Upshifters worked 54% of last year's shifts.

“It's really hectic here at times. And I can just send Zach a text and be like, book this for me and tell him names. And he just does it and takes care of it all for me.”
Heather Lokesak · Director of Dining ServicesWhen someone calls off and she has no time to open the app, she texts her account manager, Zach, the names she wants. He books them.

“It's scary when people pick up and you don't know who they are… I need somebody that can come in and just do it. You guys make that happen for me.”
Heather Lokesak · Director of Dining ServicesWeekends and holidays are the hardest shifts to fill. Her regulars cover them, so her residents see the same trusted faces.

I think it's the ease of using that, the quality of the people that I get, and then having the support of somebody that you can call. It's not an app that you're texting to. It's a real human.

On a 15-minute call we look at your dining shifts and show you how posting works. Vetted people on W-2 payroll who come back week after week.
